Restoring the Cambridge R40s
The Cambridge Audio R40 is a legendary piece of British hi-fi history from the early 1970s. Designed by the late Bert Webb, it is a smaller sibling to the massive R50 and utilizes a sophisticated Transmission Line (TL) enclosure to achieve deep, controlled bass that defies its cabinet size.

How Falcon Acoustics Facilitates Restoration
Authentic Driver Replacements
Falcon manufactures the Falcon B110 and Falcon T27, which are exact replicas of the KEF originals.
The T27 Tweeter: Essential for that "BBC-style" top end. Our version matches the original SP1032 specs perfectly.
The B110 Midrange: This driver handles the critical vocal range. Falcon produces the SP1003 version, which was the same unit used in the legendary LS3/5a monitors.
Crossover Upgrades
The original R40 crossovers used electrolytic capacitors that leak or drift in value over time, leading to a dull or "muddy" sound.
Component Kits: Falcon provides high-tolerance polycarbonate or Alcap capacitors to recapping the original boards.
Relevant Components from Falcon Acoustics
The B110, B139 and T27 can be bought individually or as a set from us.
You can upgrade the crossover using our CROSSOVER No.33Mc Mk2.
You will need the Adaptor ring for the B139 found here.
