Stereonet Reviews the Q7

Falcon Acoustics' Q7 is an excellent kit loudspeaker on a number of levels. First, it sounds superb for the price. Second, the quality of the parts is beyond reproach, and it's straightforward to build. Third, it's a fascinating design with provenance stretching back to an industry legend. With smooth and delicate treble and midband, fine low-level detail, excellent soundstaging and really decent bass response that belies its size – it's hard not to like. If you're a keen DIYer, you'd be mad to overlook it.

All you have to do is bolt the drivers and crossover onto the baffle, snap the wires into place with the push-on lugs, and screw the baffle to the cabinet. 1. British Acoustical Magic
I don't know what kind of British acoustical magic you put in there, but - for the size of these - it's insane what kind of happy musical sounds you can produce. It must be the weather, or copious amounts of tea, or both, that make you - the Brits - work your magic :)

In researching LS3/5As, I found that lots of folks pair them with subwoofers. I don't know. I don't want to have my windows shake and my floors tremble. I want to listen to music. While I know that the Q7s are are based on LS3/5As - and "true" LS3/5As might've had less bass, the Q7s have all the bass I need.

Finally, the value is insane as well. In the USA - just looking now - the cheapest LS3/5A seems to be about $2,300, and more examples at $3 - 4 thousand - and these are Rogers, so we're talking what - ~30 years old? All the "suspension" parts on the drivers are definitely not in their prime. Here, you get brand new drivers made by the same guys that were making them for BBC back in the day.

  2. I absolutely adore these speakers.
I received my Falcon Acoustics Q7 speakers two days ago and have been listening to them pretty much nonstop since they arrived. I absolutely adore these speakers. I listen primarily to vinyl with a vintage tube amplifier and with this setup they sound magnificent. The high frequencies are crystal clear, the midrange super smooth and though I was prepared to be underwhelmed by the bass it also sounds fantastic.
These are really, really good speakers and for my medium/smallish listening room are perfect. I've listened to jazz, vocals, acoustic guitar, bluegrass, classical and the speakers sounded wonderful with every style.
Even large scale orchestral pieces were convincingly and beautifully handled. Thanks so much to Jerry and everyone at Falcon Acoustics for helping enhance my audio journey.

I have waiting almost a year to write this review. I must say I just listen to acoustic music, mainly classical.

The Falcon Q7 speakers are an absolute delight for anyone who appreciates exceptional sound quality. From the moment I set them up, I was struck by their clarity and timbral precision. Every note is rendered with stunning accuracy, making it feel like you're hearing the music exactly as it was intended. The bass response is particularly impressive—deep, tight, and perfectly controlled, without ever overwhelming the rest of the frequency range.

One of the standout features of the Q7s is their coherence across the entire frequency spectrum. Whether it’s the delicate highs, the rich mids, or the powerful lows, everything blends seamlessly, creating a balanced and immersive listening experience. With well-recorded tracks, these speakers truly "disappear" in the room, leaving you with nothing but the music. It’s a magical effect that highlights their exceptional design and engineering.

That said, the Q7s are honest speakers—they won’t sugarcoat or enhance poor-quality recordings. While this might be a drawback for some, I see it as a testament to their transparency and fidelity. They reveal the truth in your music, for better or worse.

The assembly process was straightforward and even enjoyable. Everything was well-packaged and clearly explained, making it easy to get started. I also want to give a shoutout to Jerry Bloomfield, who provided excellent customer service. His helpfulness and attention to detail made the entire experience even more pleasant.

In summary, the Falcon Q7 speakers are a fantastic choice for audiophiles who value precision, clarity, and a truly authentic listening experience. Highly recommended!

I bought these after moving house and dealing with a much smaller listening room that I thought my Proac floorstanders were too big for. I expected some reduction in bass response, but was wrong! The Q7's have an amazing soundstage, for the first time the sound doesn't feel that it's coming from the speakers, the bass is excellent and very tuneful. I do have to turn the volume up a bit more, but my Avondale M130 monoblics drive them easily. I am more than impressed. If there is a downside it's that the Q7's make background music impossible. Whenever I try to read whilst listening in the background, I just have to give up and listen, they are that good. Before buying the Q7's I had been trying out much more expensive speakers, which were good, but in my view not better.

I bought these loudspeakers on a whim. As someone who has always been into 'Hi-Fi' so to speak and been aware of the BBC LS3/5A for many years I thought this incarnation in Q7 form would be a delight. I was not disappointed. Construction was easy with excellent instructions, and tools too!

I have been using these nearly full time since August 2022 and they still produce the odd surprise from time to time. Their excellent mid clarity and extremely sweet uncoloured top end sometimes has me thinking (with spoken material) that someone has entered the room.

Delighted, there's no more to be said.

Got the 'basic' Q7's early this year. Liked them from the beginning, the sound as wel as build quality. I drive them with an 11W SE tube amp, turns out great. Now I have the pre-wired Gold Badge crossover installed. No regrets! They give even more detail, depth en better bass. They aren't going anywhere from here.

I bought my first pair of hifi speakers when I started work in 1979 and have owned many since then, but none of them have given me that sense of excitement I had at the beginning - until now. My Q7 Gold Badge reveal detail I never knew was there and continue to surprise me after 3 months. Even my wife likes the sound, unlike previous speakers which she thought were 'too noisy' or 'annoying'! I am using them with a small subwoofer, which I know some people won't agree with, but I keep it just below the lowest frequency of the Q7 and at a sensible volume so that it blends in seamlessly. I think the Q7s are the last speakers I'll ever buy...

I feel the need to write to you again to wax lyrical about these absolutely astounding little boxes you have sold me. They are amazing. And I don’t say that lightly. I have them hooked up on the end of £25k of amplification and I honestly have never experienced anything like it in my listening room. I have owned many brands of high-end speakers (B&W, KEF, Spendor, Dynaudio, Magico, Linn, Neat, Focus) and to my ears and in my room, they all trail your Q7's by some significant margin. Maybe there is just an incredible synergy with my electronics, speakers and listening room (we recently moved house and I have a smaller listening room than I had previously) whatever the reason I am flabbergasted!

Bought these a couple of months ago as I was always interested in a "BBC" style speaker, I opted for the Silver Badge Crossover upgrade and Tygan grills so as to get as close as possible to the original. As a complete novice I found the kit extremely easy to build and the minimal soldering for the upgraded crossover wasn't too difficult - and Falcon were extremely helpful with queries and advices (note that the standard version of the kit does not require soldering).

Having come from Klipsch rp600 speakers the improvement in sound quality was drastic, with a midrange to die for. Have the monitors powered by a 30w SET tube amplifier and its a fantastic match.

Highly recommend entry point into that classic BBC style world of speakers. The speakers themselves also are very aesthetically pleasing - the finish on the walnut cabinets is next level.

Received my Q7 this morning and I have had it up and running for the last couple of hours.

The appearance is first rate and the sound quality, well....

Brilliant! I run a Quad Vena II and have been using a pair of B&W 686 S2s . Obviously the Q7s are several leagues above the B&Ws and the sound is so much clearer, revealing stuff I had not heard before! The Quad Vena II and Q7s seem to be an excellent match.

Can only get better when fully run in!
